i think i'm losing my mind...

does anybody else scream at their children at the absolute top of their lungs occasionally? or all the time? maybe i'm PMSing or something. here's what happened at lunch today:

i throw a bag of popcorn in the microwave and go do something else while it's popping.

joel climbs onto a stool to watch the popcorn pop and opens the microwave door half-way through the popping process.

me: (screaming as loud as i possibly can, mind you) "what in the world are you doing?!! don't ever, ever touch the microwave!! you just ruined this bag of popcorn!!! (insert more shouted ramblings here) AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!" (and i seriously just clenched my fists down at my sides and hollered "ah" as ear shatteringly as i could)

joel: he looks at me bewildered for a couple seconds and then says, "it's okay mom."

wise words indeed from a 3-year-old.

all this over a bag of popcorn that probably cost 50 cents. just tell me i'm not the devil, please.

You are not the devil. Seriously, the "ah" scream at the top of your lungs, happens almost daily at our house. There's sweet Joel for you, "it's okay mom." Love that boy!

that, is AWESOME! you are not the devil. i don't know why it's so easy to scream at children versus just talking to them, but sometimes it just feels good! joelie is so sweet. i'm surprised he didn't start crying. or is that kadin?

You are definitely not the devil... as much as I think we all wish we were "perfect" mothers we are not! Even great mothers lose their patience once in a while! :) Sometimes I can just picture my kids all grown up and talking around a dinner table saying, "Do you remember when we were little and mom was always yelling and telling us 'You're DRIVING me CRAZY!!!'" I hope they don't!!!

It's embarassing to admit, I know. I found myself yelling as loud as I could, made her cry. :(
I felt so bad. Then you realize afterwards you're being ridiculus.

i know you, and i know for sure you're not the devil... maybe a little hot and tempting... but not the devil. :)

but i will throw this out there... i have vivid recollections of my mom coming into my room after each and every one of her outbursts and sitting me down and apologizing to me (even when we'd have spats on my visits home during college). honestly, even as a little girl her humility meant something to me and taught me a lot about asking for forgiveness. just for what it's worth.

p.s. i miss your little guy.
p.p.s. there really is nothing more aggravating than a ruined bag of popcorn.

Sometimes a good scream really gets the job done. Don't feel bad--just eat more popcorn.

My yelling gets worse with age. Like when I have a 5 year old doing something that a 3 year old knows that she shouldnt do. Or whining, the older they are the more annoying it is when they whine. I dont know if your the devil, but I sure am sometimes.

I have been realling working on yelling and tone of voice. When I am good at it, it really makes a difference. We are all working hard on being better people.

Remember my little guy and his buddy dumping the paint! You bet there was some yelling (the "you've gotta be kidding me). I was lucky on that one that his buddy was over or it would have been worse.

Every mom looses their cool! If they say they don't they are lying - they just have to be!

Don't we just love this rollercoaster ride called motherhood? I love that it challenges me and humbles me, daily!

Love it - at the end of the day sometimes I think back at the things I yelled at my kids about and feel really bad because they are all things like a bag a popcorn.
Thankfully, they are sweet and forgiving :)

I'm calling child welfare services. This nonsense is ridiculous and it must stop. We will make you an example! Unless it was kettle corn...hmmm...

You are hilarious and not the devil. Kids are so forgiving. I don't have my own, but I feel myself getting impatient with my students sometimes. I say things I should. I apologize. The next day they are giving me hugs and ready to learn.

I know the feeling! You need to re-read elder ballard's conference talk from this last session. It will make you feel much better. My favorite line..."The joy of motherhood comes in moments." Not all day everyday! Love ya-hang in there.

I am so glad you blogged this experience. Allie turns two next month and I think she is hitting the "terrible twos" a little early. I loved ready the comments too. I'm glad to know that I am not the only mother who feels or acts this way now and then! It really is comforting.

If you are, so am I! Paul told me recently that when I get like that it's because I'm PMSing, so maybe you have the same culprit. :)

You are so NOT the devil. I would have never guessed until I had children that motherhood was the perfect place to learn to control my temper. When Nate was only a year I had a good friend who had four kids ranging from age 8-2. She had mentioned that the Stake was offering a class on controling anger and she really wanted to attend because she just felt like she yelled at her kids all of the time and couldn't control her anger. In my niave mind I thought "Wow, I don't know when I would ever have to yell at my kids." Ha ha ha ha. Nate was one- there's not much to yell at a one year old for. Believe me, I've learned me lesson and right now I'm wondering where those anger classes are being offered. Hang in there.

You are sooo not the devil. Why is it that something as little as popcorn just makes us snap but it seems like that's how it always is. We can handle the important things with such ease but popcorn - no way! Joel's response was so cute!
