embarrassed.

i'm am officially a moron. i was waiting in line for gas at costco tonight and my car dies... out of gas. apparently the 22 gallon tank that they advertised in the handbook of our new honda odyssey minivan is really a 19 1/2 gallon tank. i called out to this indian guy filling his tank in the line next to me to help me push the van forward. wow. my car is REALLY heavy. a couple more indian guys in line behind me hopped out of their car and helped us. good thing i was next in a humongous line that i had been waiting in for 20 minutes already. i was so embarrassed my hands were shaking. thanks to good samaritans number 1, 2 and 3 for helping out a silly girl.

If it makes you feel better I have an embarrassing car story as well.
We bought a van 2 1/2 years ago from my in-laws. It was a nice van but basically in week two of owning it everything went down the drain. They had been opening the drivers side sliding door incorrectly for the 4 years they had owned it, this had slowly warn down the little sliding ball that helps the door "glide" open. They turned it into a not-so-gliding-triangle. I opened it one evening only to have it fall off in my hands. Seriously. Well, being poor law students we haven't been able to afford the $600 to fix the door so we've just avoided it for the last 2 1/2 years. It's not like it happened last week, it's been 2 1/2 years. So last week as I was leaving Jo-Ann's with a huge roll of fabric I was consciously reminding myself, "Amber make sure to open the door that works, make sure to open the wait which one is it, oh yeah the driver's side...." and so I opened the drivers side sliding door. And sure enough it fell to my feet (thankfully not ON my feet) So there I sat in the parking lot in 98 degree weather for 25 minutes for Zach to come and pick up the door and put it back on for me. Tons and tons of people walked by and I heard over and over again, "oh my gosh did you see that - her door just fell off!!! Ha Ha HAAA" Then right before Zach got there this really nice guy walked up and offered to help. I was totally embarrassed but really grateful. He just lifted it up and pushed it back on but boy did I feel like a moron. Zach still gives me crap about it, I attribute it to mommy brain.

Oh no! But we've all been there right? Well except for the mens. Apparently they don't run out of gas!

Ok, how in the world are you supposed to know that the tank is not as advertised? That is very odd. Congrats on the new car! My sisters have both had oddeseys for years and they have had so few minor issues with them. I love honda!

FYI your gas tank may be 22 gallons but there is always gas left in the tank. The fuel pump can not suck up the gas that is lower than it and the bottom is where any particals settle so do don't want the very last drop going through. The bottom of the gas tank is basically 4 feet by 4 feet, so if there is 1/4 inch of gas left in your tank it could be around 2 gallons. That is most likely more information than you wanted but such is the life of the wife of a car doctor.
Have a good day!

Sean has run out of gas so many times. He always drives on empty and pushes it until the end. Good thing you were right there at the gas station.

gotta love the odyseey! What color do you have? I have loved ours since the day we drove it home! I feel spoiled in it.

One day I was getting gas at Costco and the Costco worker in the orange vest was directing cars in line around one car that was stuck at the pump. The poor guy had locked his keys in the car.
By the way, my dad has run out of gas right before the pump as well. Luckily, he had 5 kids in the car and we all pushed it in for him.
